Ewen Baker: Ewen will teach an informative elective called “A Few Bowing Ideas – Where to Slur in Celtic Tunes”. Bonus opportunity for the fiddle players.
Jamie Molloy: Jamie will discuss session structure, instrument contributions, timing, volume, where to sit etc.. and how to get more enjoyment from playing together. On Sunday, Jamie will lead the slow session where groups can share and play newly learned tunes. All instruments welcome.
Jody Moran: Jody will teach how to write an Irish trad tune that sounds traditional from scratch. Jody ran this class in 2024, and we still get feedback from participants about how good this class was.
Máirtín Staunton: Máirtín is also an accomplished singer who is passionate about songs from the sean-nós tradition. His elective will look at a sean-nós song/air, then translate it so people understand the song and use this to guide playing the melody as an air.
Oscar West: For the past 2 years Oscar has examined tune history in his elective. It’s been a very popular class, and owing to its popularity, Oscar has since repeated this workshop at other traditional Celtic music events in Australia. Many tunes carry a story behind their 16 bars and interesting titles.
With limited spaces in this class, Lyn (Dini) Munden will teach how to make Irish soda bread this year, using a recipe we stole with permission from Fiona McAlinden at The Lake School of Celtic Music Song and Dance. If you have special dietary requirements, please contact us to discuss options. There will be 2 classes, both in the kitchen at the Western Tiers Community Club. Tickets must be purchased separately for this class, as it is not included on any other ticket due to limited numbers. Please read the instructions on the ticket information page to access the limited tickets.
