Oscar West 2026

The multi-talented Oscar is an interesting and engaging teacher who is returning for a third time to Deloraine Celtic Music School in 2026 to teach beginner flute, fiddle and mandolin classes. This tuition is being introduced for the first time this year and is aimed at beginners, with shorter tuition time in order to give you time to go practise and absorb what you have learnt. Oscar currently runs the popular Sunday Session in The Last Jar, Melbourne and is a passionate performer and advocate for traditional Celtic music in Australasia, being involved in many musical projects. Initially starting on classical violin, at the age of 16 was steered towards learning Scottish Smallpipes, Irish Whistle and Highland Pipes. He can often also be seen leading the tempo and adding to performances on his mandolin in various settings at festivals and musical celebrations around Australia and beyond. His class is aimed at those new or just starting out in traditional Celtic music. It’s best that you can play a D scale on your instrument.

Elective: For the past 2 years Oscar has examined tune history in his elective. It’s been a very popular class, and owing to its popularity, Oscar has since repeated this workshop at other traditional Celtic music events in Australia. Many tunes carry a story behind their 16 bars and interesting titles.
