Allan hails from Castlemaine in Central Victoria, where he learnt saxophone in high school.During this time, he discovered the tin whistle and Irish traditional music, and he was hooked! Andy Rigby, fellow Central Victorian musician, introduced him to Irish flute and folk harp.
Allan now performs with award-winning bands Tolka and Trioc, and has travelled around Australia and internationally with his music. More recently he has performed as flute/whistle understudy in Melbourne for the hit Broadway musical Come From Away, and has also joined forces with hot new Irish band The Boylans.
Allan has previously taught and tutored at numerous music camps (including Koroit Lake School of Celtic Music, Song and Dance; Rosewood Music Camp; Turramurra Folk Music Camp; and Harpers Bizarre Harp Camp), festivals (including recently at Portarlington National Celtic Festival; and the National Folk Festival in Canberra), and privately to students of varying levels and abilities.
For the DCMW Allan will be leading Flute/Tin Whistle classes
Saturday Elective: Allan will focus on Compositions of Vincent Broderick, who was a flute and tin whistle player from county Galway.
